Born in Florence in 1856, his paintings tell stories to me just like Jack Vetrianno does today - see the right hand column

I just love his work - who wouldn't want to dance on the beach or drink champagne in the bath? Charismatic, clever, unique. His style (as a self taught artist) is all his own. Like John Singer Sargent he "tells me a story" in every painting. He gets a pasting from so-called 'art critics' - I hope he roars like a howler monkey, with laughter.
